How do new healthcare systems become a member of Canopy Cancer Collective?

Canopy Cancer Collective has identified the leading pancreatic cancer institutions and is working closely with them to take on the improvements needed to deliver a better experience and create the best possible outcomes for both patients and providers. Canopy Cancer Collective works with the cancer center to build out the plans, establish leadership, provide additional consulting, and direct access to the learning network. Interested healthcare systems are encouraged to apply by emailing us.

Why does Canopy Cancer Collective want to create new care systems?

Canopy Cancer Collective helps healthcare systems go beyond the current standard of care and conventional cancer treatments for the deadliest of cancers. The existing care system evolved from each discipline of cancer medicine focusing on their own area of training and expertise.

However, advanced cancers, especially pancreatic cancer, require multiple medical and supportive disciplines to treat the whole person and achieve the best outcomes for every patient.

These disciplines must all see and treat the patient in a timely and efficient manner throughout their journey. To achieve the best outcomes, this care must be coordinated and comprehensive. Participants of the Collective continually learn and explore the best innovative treatments and care approaches through the use of data, collaboration, and participation in clinical trials. Everything works in concert to drive towards the best health outcomes.

Why are we starting with pancreatic cancer?

Today, Canopy Cancer Collective is focused on helping healthcare systems, caregivers, and patients treat and overcome pancreatic cancer because we feel that it has the most opportunity for improvement. Pancreatic cancer is particularly complex and affects both the bodies and minds of patients.

The ultimate goal is to have every single pancreatic cancer patient get the best, most individualized, and compassionate care possible. Patients can do more than just survive; they can thrive.

We’ve made great strides and we’ve improved survival in the last few years, but we have a tremendous amount of work to do when treating pancreatic cancer. Healthcare systems often work in silos, missing out on critical new research and collaborative treatments. Patients often lack the robust support systems needed to help them overcome pancreatic cancer as a team. The ultimate goal is to have every single pancreatic cancer patient get the best, most individualized, and compassionate care possible.

What is a Collective?

A Collective represents the collaboration of participating healthcare systems in the learning network, so that their patients receive comprehensive and compassionate care. The Collective covers the unique multidisciplinary needs of pancreatic cancer patients; it coordinates care and learning among doctors, scientists, and wellness specialists from all relevant disciplines and across institutions.

What does Canopy Cancer Collective create?

Canopy Cancer Collective partners with leading healthcare systems to create new multidisciplinary collectives that care for pancreatic cancer patients. Each healthcare system’s collective connects top medical care providers, cancer researchers, and wellness specialists — including an advisory council of pancreatic cancer thrivers — to formulate and foster best practices in care management. Canopy Cancer Collective then helps each healthcare system deliver comprehensive care to pancreatic cancer patients.

What are the benefits for healthcare systems?

Healthcare systems can be confident their patients will receive the most advanced treatment and services. Canopy Cancer Collective connects member healthcare systems in a learning network, which provides access to shared data, leading researchers, and additional physicians and practitioners within the collective. Learning and sharing best practices lead to better outcomes, greater patient coordination, growth in the quality, quantity and efficiency of care provided, and increased satisfaction among both patients and care team members.

Is Canopy Cancer Collective an insurance plan?

No, Canopy Cancer Collective is not an insurance plan. Canopy Cancer Collective does not pay for nor reimburse the costs of any specific course of treatment. Canopy Cancer Collective is a nonprofit organization that helps organize multidisciplinary clinics at leading healthcare facilities. The healthcare systems themselves determine which insurance programs are applicable to the care provided. While specific donors or sponsors might fund parts of the work Canopy Cancer Collective delivers, our role is to “catalyze and nurture” the programs at the facility.

Is Canopy Cancer Collective a health provider?

No, Canopy Cancer Collective is not a health provider. We create and cultivate the collaborative treatment program that healthcare systems use to provide pancreatic cancer patients with the best options and outcomes.
